The Dolphins have the 12th overall pick on the draft. The roster has holes at the FS, NT, OLB and LG positions. Many people have been talking about Texas safety Earl Thomas going to Miami with the 12th pick. I would love that move but there are some other options to be counted as well.
Jason Taylor is still waiting for the Dolphins to offer him any deals so he can finish his career in Miami with his family. If the Dolphins are willing to wait until after the draft to sign JT back, there is gotta be reason for that. They want to see the pass rushers that will fall when pick their players and, if they find the pass rusher they want to, JT might be signing with the J E T S ughh. Possible pass rushers in the first round for the Dolphins are: Georgia Tech Derrick Morgan, Michigan Brandon Graham, South Florida Jason Pierre-Paul and Texas Sergio Kindle. Apparently, the Dolphins are willing to trade down their 12th pick. That would be a smart move if they could get that 2nd round pick back somehow. This year's draft is very talented so by getting a 2nd round pick from any team would be a huge plus to the Fins. This move would allow the Dolphins to look for a pass rusher in the 2nd round since there are so many and focus their first pick on either a NT or FS.
For the NT position there a couple of options out there. The top prospects are: Tennessee Dam Williams and Alabama Terrence Cody. These two players are true NT's. Parcells would love to pick one of these players. Williams is 6-3 weighting 327 pounds and he could be a possible franchise NT. Cody is a much bigger guy. He is 6-5 weighting 365 pounds. I personally would love to add Cody to the roster instead of Williams because Cody could actually fall to the 2nd round and if the Dolphins find a way to get their 2nd round pick back, Cody could possibly be available for them there.
As I said before, people are excited to have Earl Thomas in the roster with the 12th pick on the draft. Here's another option for the FS position. On my last post I mentioned the Dolphins could move Sean Smith to the FS position and make Will Allen start opposed to Vontae Davis. If Sean Smith can play FS, The Dolphins wouldn't have to waste their 1st round pick on a FS who can easily not succeed since FS is a hard position to play in this league. They could still draft USC Taylor Mays if he is available on the 3rd round. He is a very talented player who needs to show that he is capable on playing at a high level in the NFL. But what the heck, every player needs to prove that.
Well, we just have to wait and see what the Dolphins will do this Thursday night.
What do you think they should do?
